I would like you to meet Lady a border collie cross, who is your meeter and greeter. She loves Water Edge and knows what is going on all over the property, just ask her. Then Bella and short hair Dashound who would like to boss us all around, and is comical Niemo the Cat. lovely tempered, but has long hair so does not come in the house. They all meet you and find out who you are, and welcome you.
It does not matter what time of the year it is, there are a lot of birds. The Lake brings all the water birds, plus passage birds in Spring, and Fall.
This area bedside the lake gives you good viewing to all kinds of birds.
We have a resident Osprey couple that raise a young each year, the nest not far from our B&B. Bald Eagles,Grey Herons, Swans, Loons, Kingfishers, Bufflehead ducks and Grebes, Mergansers, Mallards, Scooter ducks. The Creek near by gives a host of birds, Dippers, Cedar Waxwings to name some.
The surrounding forest has the Blue Jay, Chickadee, Yellow Canaries, Finches, Wrens, large Robins Hummingbirds Passage birds, are Golden Eagle, Red-polls, swallows. With winter Fall and winter, the Pileated Woodpeckers and Sapsuckers, Grouse
We have Otters, but you have to get up early to see them, fishing at the creek or lying on the Dock. Deer, white tail and Mule deer are seen in herds around here. We have bears come in to check the compost bin and fruit trees in the Fall. To keep then under control we pick the fruit early and dig the compost into the veggie garden. Cougars and Bob cats come around in the winter. There are Squirrels and Chipmunks also bats in the evening. The wildlife can vary each season, fun and interesting to watch.
For more active pastimes, a private, pebbly beach is just steps from your door with a gazebo, campfire facilities, and 30-foot dock. Kootenay Lake is cool, clean, and noted for fishing, swimming, boating, all water sports.
For the golfer, Riondel offers a nine hole, executive course and 20 minutes away is world class Kokanee Springs golf resort. Nearby are miles of forestry roads for hiking or exploring on ATVs, mountain bikes, or in winter, snowmobiles and cross-country skis. Both the creek and the lake offer excellent, year round fishing - we cannot say enough about the fishing: Kokanee, Dolly Vardon, Gerrard Rainbow, and brook trout are all worth catching for the sport and the gourmet meal.

Although
secluded, Water's Edge is not isolated; it is a delightful base for exploring
the Kootenays. Pebble Beach Provincial Park - a beautiful beach for picnicking
or camping - is just minutes to the north. Riondel is a 5 minute drive south,
where you'll find Bob's Bar and Grill with good food, Riondel Market with post
office and liquor agency to meet most needs, and the boat club, which will
allow use of their boat launch for a small fee.
The artisans' strip in Crawford Bay lies a further 15 minutes south where weavers, blacksmiths, glass blowers, broom makers, potters and other artists and craftsmen provide a unique shopping experience. Exploring the lake by boat is great fun or take the world's longest free ferry ride to soak in Ainsworth hot springs, soak up the 1890s atmosphere of Kaslo, or shop in the distinctive stores of picturesque Nelson. Wherever you go, the scenery is magnificent and people are friendly.
